THE FILM Les Immortels - French version VOD

The camera sits at the centre of the table at a dinner party in town, where representatives of a contemporary society, left behind by its own era, have gathered. It circles them tirelessly, in real time, in a single continuous shot that leaves them no way out and locks them, with no possible escape, into discussions that lead nowhere.

The talk turns to their relationship with time, to social change and to the art world. The grotesque conceals a narcissism and a decay from which no one is spared. In this way, the authors show the tragedy of the banality of our age.

Suddenly, one guest disrupts this dinner, caught between games of seduction and clashing opinions. A young Russian woman, who has been mistaken for someone else, reveals herself to the others and creates a distance in which everyone feels trapped.

Since the subject of conversation revolves around the art world, it may well be that, through these guests, it is the French spirit itself that becomes a work of art.

Gérard Rancinan and Caroline Gaudriault wish to write and direct two further sequences set in two different periods, thereby showing this human comedy throughout history.
